Director's/Manager's Workshop
Tuesday, October 16th
 
Three hours of ACPE-accredited continuing pharmacy education for pharmacists is available from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm
followed by the Welcome Reception from 4:30-5:30 pm and the Reverse Expo from 5:30-6:30 pm!

Continuing Education Topics, Speakers, and Learning Objectives:
 
1:30pm-2:30pm:  Practical Solutions for Medication Safety (Jeff Brittain, PharmD, BCPS; Pharmacy Manager, Medical University of South Carolina)
 
At the completion of this activity, the pharmacist will be able to:
  1. Define a culture of safety
  2. List common types of medication errors
  3. Describe strategies to reduce medication errors and improve patient safety
  4. Given a scenario, develop a practical strategy to reduce medication errors and improve patient safety
 
2:30pm-3:30pm:  Multidisciplinary Medication-Related Savings Opportunities (Hollie Chinn, PharmD; Pharmacy Supervisor, Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital)
 
At the completion of this activity, the pharmacist will be able to:
  1. Describe process steps for a successful conversion from use of dinoprostone to misoprostol
  2. Describe a step-wise approach to establishing limits on IV acetaminophen and liposomal bupivacaine use throughout the hospital
  3. List strategies for obtaining support from medical staff for IV acetaminophen to and liposomal bupivacaine restrictions
 
3:30pm-4:30pm:  Planning and Executing Effective Lean Improvement Projects (Jonathan Ewaldz, MBA, PMP; Director of Operational Effectiveness, Palmetto Health)
 
At the completion of this activity, the pharmacist will be able to:
  1. Explain the similarities and differences between common process improvement (PI) methodologies
  2. Select appropriate tools for various problem solving scenarios
  3. Demonstrate a high level understanding of key improvement project phases
  4. Apply PI tools to basic processes

Requirements for CE Credit

Participants must sign in upon arrival and have attendance verified.
 
To claim credit for this activity, participants must complete the online program evaluation and must update their accounts to properly reflect their month/day of birth and correct NABP e-Profile ID.  To register with NABP or look up your NABP e-Profile ID, please click on the CPE Monitor logo below to be directed to their site. 
 
Credit that is claimed greater than 60 days from the date of the program will be automatically rejected by the CPE Monitor.  Claiming credit within 30 days of the live program will ensure that any issues with transmission to the CPE Monitor can be rectified in advance of the 60-day deadline.  If you would like a paper statement of credit, you may print an individual statement or a transcript from your NABP e-Profile.
