Description:  The 2018 Pharmacy Technician Continuing Education Program will provide 4 hours of CE credit.  The session will cover: Pharmacy Law: REMS Programs, Medication Safety: Safety Considerations in Self-care, Immunization Update, and Tobacco Cessation. Attendees will participate in active learning activities to apply concepts learned through each of the individual sessions.

Learning Objectives:
 
Pharmacy Law: REMS Programs (ACPE UAN 0062-9999-18-020-L03-T, 1.0 hour)
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
  • Define and describe the purpose of Risk Evaluation & Mitigation Strategies (REMS) programs
  • List components of REMS programs
  • Identify medications that require REMS programs
  • Given a medication, describe the required actions per the REMS program
Medication Safety: Safety Considerations in Self-care (ACPE UAN 0062-9999-18-021-L05-T, 1.0 hour)
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
  • Describe common OTC medication practices and potential issues that may arise with their use
  • Identify classes of OTC medications that are high risk for certain patient populations
  • Discuss precautions that can be used to prevent safety issues with OTCs
  • List components of drug fact labeling and identify how this information can be used to improve the safety of OTC medications
Immunization Update (ACPE UAN 0062-9999-18-022-L06-T, 1.0 hour)
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
  • Discuss the collective role of health care professionals in immunization practices
  • Summarize recent changes to the ACIP and CDC immunization recommendations for both adults and children
  • Obtain pertinent patient-specific information to identify vaccine needs or contraindications
Tobacco Cessation (ACPE UAN 0062-9999-18-023-L01-T, 1.0 hour)
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
  • Describe the importance of tobacco cessation
  • Define and describe tobacco cessation programs
  • Identify barriers to quitting and triggers for relapse
  • Compare and contrast available OTC treatment options for tobacco cessation
  • Discuss safety issues with OTC treatment products

Requirements for CE Credit

To claim credit, participants must sign-in at the beginning of the event and attend the entire event.  No partial credit will be issued.  Participants must complete an online evaluation within 30 days (providing their correct NABP e-profile number and day/month of birth) in order to ensure credit is reported to the NABP CPE Monitor.  Any credit claimed greater than 60 days from the date of the program will not be accepted by the NABP CPE Monitor.
