Immunization Update 2019 (Pharmacists)

Program Description and Goal:  Pharmacy can provide advocacy for appropriate preventative health related immunizations and expand the potential for delivery of immunizations. This activity will review the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations as well as highlight changes, using patient cases to apply specific vaccination recommendations to clinical situations.  In addition, the activity will demonstrate ways that pharmacists and pharmacy technicians can act as advocates for vaccination and identify strategies to improve vaccination rates.  Lastly, the activity will also describe vaccine efficacy and review appropriate administration technique.
NoteWhile this program will serve as a clinical review and update on immunizations for any practitioner, the specific protocol and requirements for pharmacists in South Carolina to administer vaccines are reviewed and may differ for other states.
