The pharmacy profession faces an increased demand and opportunity to expand its role in healthcare delivery by providing Medication Therapy Management services. These services will advance pharmacy’s role in public health as well as provide improved medication outcomes for our patients. This activity is designed to explore current opportunities with MTM, give practical suggestions to implement MTM, and discuss strategies that have proven efficient and successful to incorporate MTM into practice.

10:45am-12:15pm Immunization Update 2016 (1.5 hours) ACPE# 0062-0000-16-166-L01-P & 0062-0000-16-166-L01-T
Pharmacy can play a key role in improving immunization rates and has the opportunity to enhance public health outcomes. This activity will review the new 2016 Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations as well as highlight changes. Activity will review recommendations for influenza vaccines for 2016-2017 including available products. Dr. Blake will also review key components of the updated SC Pharmacy Practice Act regarding immunizations. Patient cases will be used to apply specific vaccination recommendations to clinical situations.

1-2:15pm What’s New in Diabetes Management? (1.25 hour) ACPE# 0062-0000-16-167-L01-P & 0062-0000-16-167-L01-T
This activity is designed to update pharmacists and pharmacy technicians on recent changes in guidelines for treatment of patients with diabetes as well as the newer medications now available and the evidenced based role in therapy. The importance of lifestyle modifications in outcomes in diabetes treatment will also be discussed.
2:15pm-3:30pm USP<800>: Implications for Community Pharmacy Personnel (1.25 hrs) ACPE# 0062-0000-16-168-L03-P & 0062-0000-16-168-L03-T
This activity is designed to update community pharmacy personnel of the changes in enforceable standards for healthcare practitioners with the approval of USP<800> in February 2016. Pharmacy will be the epicenter for USP <800> implementation and the impact of these new standards will be felt by nearly all practicing pharmacy personnel. Many pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are unaware of this new standard and the fact that USP identifies dispensing tablets, liquids, and topical dosage forms, in addition to non-sterile compounding with active pharmaceutical ingredients, as potential hazardous drug exposures for pharmacy personnel. This program will explain the potential impact on community pharmacy practice and the compliance requirements outlined in USP <800> for those entities that are handling hazardous drugs

Accreditation: The South Carolina College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This program has been accredited for 6.0 live contact hours (0.6 CEUs) for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, including 1.25 hours of law. Participants must sign in and attend all sessions for maximum credit. Participants must complete an on-line evaluation within 30 days to facilitate transmission to the CPE Monitor. Failure to provide correct and/or complete information may result in your activity not being reported to the CPE Monitor. ACPE now requires that all credit be claimed and reported within 60 days after the live event. This is a knowledge based learning activity.SCCP reserves the right to cancel the entire program. In the event of a cancellation, each participant will be notified via email prior to the program and a full tuition refund will be made.
